Defying the Drift
On Wednesday 6 December we had 2 wonderful presentations from Lacie and Chloe who were our representatives at the Defying The Drift program at Longrenong Agricultural College in September this year.
Both young women are students at Loreto College, Ballarat and spoke brilliantly about their experience at the 3 day residential course.
They visited 3 different working farms and learnt about broad acre grain, beef and sheep and wildflower farming and also learnt about preserving crop species at the Grain Innovation Park Smart Farm.
Lacie and Chloe talked about the technology and apps now available to assist farmers manage their crops and stock and both are sold on completing further studies at Longrenong and futures in the Agriculture sector.
Defying the Drift is a wonderful Rotary Youth project that was developed by Rotarians from Beaufort and surrounds in District 9780. The aim of the program is to encourage ural students to stay on the land and to showcase the various careers in agriculture.
The program available to secondary students considering a career in agriculture and related industries. Defying the Drift is run on campus at respected Victorian tertiary rural colleges Marcus Oldham College at Waurn Ponds near Geelong and Longerenong College, near Horsham.
