June Driscoll ... 2008-09
The focus of the 2008-2009 Board was to be successful in the key areas of Rotary endeavour while providing an atmosphere of friendliness, inclusiveness and enthusiasm for all members.
The International President D.K. Lee's theme for 2008- 2009 was 'Make Dreams Real' urging us to focus on 'the most precious resource of every community: our children. In embracing this idea we have supported the breakfast club at the Magpie Primary School, provided educational scholarships for young parents in our community, joined in a District Matching Grant project to provide clean water to schools in Southern India, and we have supported the PolioPlus program and the ShelterBox project.
Member families welcomed into their homes an exchange student from Japan, Mioko Mori. Keith, Michael and Rhonda, Geoff and Desley, Trevor and Pam, Kath, and Jessie and Andrew thank you for including Mioko in your family life. Your contribution to the life experience of this student cannot be tangibly measured but your input will be of influence as Mioko resumes her life in Japan and develops into adulthood.
Fellowship functions held throughout the year included a Gold Class Theatre night, The Avoca Cup, cocktail Christmas party, BYO picnic at the lake, breakfast at the Turrett on Ballarat Cup Day, drinks and dinner at the City Oval Hotel, Peel to pub walk with lunch at the Brown Hill Hotel and a restaurant progressive dinner.
