John Ruyg ... 2006-07

This year saw the introduction of a new structure under the Club Leadership Plan with an emphasis on longer term planning and goals for projects, membership and the Rotary Foundation.

I was very happy over the course of the year to induct four new members into our club.

Club members participated in Relay for Life, helping raise vital funds for Cancer Council of Victoria.

Major fundraising activities included a games night for Shelterbox Australia, the Rotary Club of Ballarat South car raffle, weeky meeting chook raffles and a wine auction with Ballarat West Rotary Club, which jointly raised approximately $5,200.

This year the club sponsored an outgoing youth exchange student, Andrew Knox, a Year 10 student at Ballarat & Clarendon College. Andrew is being hosted by Rotary Club of Georgetown, Canada.

One of our major Community Service projects for the year was our Smoke Detector Battery Changeover for the elderly with around 160 smoke detector batteries changed in 90 homes.

The Club, in association with "Beyond Blue" and the University of Ballarat, conducted two facilitated workshops with the aim of increasing the knowledge and understanding of mental health issues in the workplace.
