Brian Harrison ... 2020-21
Thinking about my time in the club and the club as a whole, it would seem to me that we are so used to routine. Weekly meetings, fundraising, supporting worthy charities and fellowship.
As we all know, that got turned on its head early in 2020 due to Covid-19. We finished past presidents Huy’s year with Zoom meetings and started the new Rotary year with a Zoom changeover. Not perfect but it was all that was available. Zoom meetings were reasonably well received.
The first opportunity to meet face to face was like a breath of fresh air.
Whilst we have achieved much during the year, I wanted to highlight two significant projects: The finality of the safe water hydrant in Myanmar. We take potable water as a right in our country. To imagine that a community can now safely drink the local water is unfathomable. The second significant achievement is the Scholarship Program created for students attending the Yuille Park Primary School. A fantastic use of funds supporting disadvantaged children in our own community.
As I reflect on the past year, I would like to say that I’ve been overwhelmed by the capacity of our membership to give, give, and give a little bit more. Not only contributing to our local and overseas communities, but I think most importantly committing to our own membership.
As a Board we developed strategies to keep people connected and to make sure we were all OK.
