On Wednesday 16th Aug, we welcomed RYLA participant Nyadoar Moses to our gathering. The club sponsored Nyadoar to attend the leadership camp earlier this year. Nyadoar is currently attending Swinburne University where she is undertaking first year studies in Psychology. Her mother, Mary Top, is known to many of us as a regular stall holder at the monthly Bridge Mall Market.
Nyadoar spoke confidently and impressed those present with her engaging personality. She spoke fondly of the impact that the RYLA experience had on her and shared a little of her amazing family history with the group.
She left South Sudan with her family aged 1 month old. She was then separated from her family for 12 months (in the care of others in Egypt) as they worked to gain visa access for her to Australia. This brief snippet of her family’s story told of the huge sacrifice that refugees make to find a better life.
