Kelvin King & Bob Ford
Also on Wed 26th March '25, club members heard from two visiting Rotarians: Kelvin King (Alfredton Rotary President) and Bob Ford (Ballarat East Rotary President).
Kelvin is the leader of the Rotary Goldfields Community Group involving the six Ballarat Rotary clubs together with the Rotary clubs of Beaufort, Ararat and Maryborough. This group has been looking for projects to bring Goldfields Rotary Clubs together in a one-off community event which could meet the following Rotary objectives: community action, environmental work to attract new members, long-term impact and low risk of failure.
The group has connected with a regional Landcare collective which has been successful in gaining a $700,000 grant to revegetate 13 identified local areas in the Yarrowee River catchment. Bob stated that this project is ‘shovel-ready’ insofar as seedlings are ready for planting this winter and that the Goldfields Rotary Group is well placed to assist with planning, organisational and planting tasks involving wide community participation.
Bob and Kelvin are seeking one member from RCWB to join a joint Rotary/Landcare executive committee to take this project into an Environmental Day of Action.
