Highlands LLEN Assist Young People
Explore Working In Programs
These industry immersion programs provide students with the opportunity to explore careers through a combination of hands-on activities, industry visits and direct engagement with employers and apprentices. Recent programs have included Agriculture, Automotive, Big Builds, Finishing Trades and Welding. The programs are designed to expose students to career opportunities they may not have previously considered while helping local industries connect with their future workforce.
Mock Interviews
The Mock Interview Program brings together volunteers from industry and the community to conduct realistic job interviews with secondary school students. Students prepare resumes, cover letters and job applications before participating in one-on-one interviews and receiving constructive feedback. The program helps build confidence, communication skills and interview readiness while providing valuable insights into employer expectations.
Real Talks
Real Talks connects students with local professionals, tradespeople and business leaders who share honest and authentic stories about their career journeys. Presenters discuss their pathways, challenges, successes and lessons learned, helping students gain a realistic understanding of the many routes available after school and encouraging informed career decision-making.
Ally and Jenny highlighted the critical role community volunteers play in supporting these programs and the significant impact that positive interactions with industry and community members can have on a young person's future aspirations and confidence. Highlands LLEN has been running in Ballarat for 25 years and there are 31 LLENS across the state.
