On Wed 16th April '25, members heard from Dr Strobe Driver on the subject of the China Taiwan crisis.

Strobe gained a PhD through his studies in war, terrorism, international relations, counter factual analysis and Asia – Pacific security.

His fascinating presentation centred on the history behind China’s desire to bring Taiwan within its full control and the factors influencing if, when and how that might occur. Strobe explained that China regards Taiwan as its sovereign territory and postulated on a possible outcome of their ambitions over the coming 10-15 years.

Strobe presented interesting thoughts on China’s relationship with Russia and how that plays into their current position with regard to Taiwan.
