District 9780 Conference
The weekend of 21st to 23rd March 2025 provided an opportunity for members to experience Rotary beyond the club - at the District 9780 Conference.
The Rotary Club of Wendouree Breakfast was very well represented with 16 members attending the event.
(Absent from the group photo were David and Bronwyn Sanders, Phillip Lee & Jessie Harman).
A highlight of the conference for our club was being awarded the Gold Environment Award by DG Lesley Shedden - an amazing achievement by all members of our Environment Committee.
David & Andrew were very pleased to receive the award on behalf of club members.
The weekend provided plenty of Rotary content about a number of causes that our club chooses to support including – Defying the Drift, BlazeAid, End Polio Now, Australian Rotarians Against Malaria (ARAM – formerly RAM), mental health topics, and Youth Exchange. Other presentations detailed the Fiji Model Towns Charitable Trust (Rotahomes), a village school redevelopment in PNG and the importance on maintaining muscle mass and strength as we age.
The conference included a presentation from domestic violence campaigner and 2015 Australian of the Year Rosie Batty.
Alan Murphy (from RC Kardinia) and Rob McDougal gave an an excellent presentation on our work in Ambon.
BlazeAid CEO – Melissa Jones presented, as well as PDG Jessie Harman who presented 100 years of Rotary History in District 9780.
Polio survivors Gary Newman & Ramesh Ferris also spoke about Polio.
