GSE Team From Brazil in Ballarat

The five Team members originate from among the 47 clubs which make up District 4520 in the Republica Federativa do Brasil - a country larger than Australia with a population of 198 million spread over 26 States.

Thirty Eight year old Roberto Romano (a Dentist) led the group which consisted of Andreia Maria Araujo Drummond (also a Dentist), Ludmila Siqueira M. Pires Amaral (a lawyer working for the Tax Department), Paulo Henrique Feliciano (a Teacher and School Principal) and Sharlyne Couri Carvalho (A Journalist working in a Travel Agency).

After settling in and meeting the host families, everyone gathered at member Sue Lewis's home for a traditional bar-b-que; which really intrigued the visitors. It was a great social evening which enabled the travellors to meet many of the Club members.

Tuesday saw them visiting workplaces in Ballarat which included a Primary School, the Law Courts and WIN Television studios. An evening with the host families was followed the next day with shopping in Melbourne and a full Group 8 dinner at the Ballarat Golf Club (see dinner pictures below).

The Team from Brazil generously entertained members of the various clubs, telling us and playing a video about their homeland, the cities they came from and their lifestyle. One of our Club members, Robert McDougall, is shortly to lead a GSE Team from our District to Brazil so there was some Portugese language instruction during the evening.

A visit to Ballarat's famous Sovereign Hill outdoor museum on the Thursday was followed by the obligatory AFL Football match in Melbourne on the Friday night.

There was a report of several people shedding tears as the Team were farewelled to the Rotary Club of Nhill at Halls Gap on the Saturday 6th March, 2010.
