The Event
Relay for Life is an event held by the Cancer Council to raise funds and profile for the fight against cancer.
Teams come together to walk for 18 hours, raising money with fundraising activities and walking sponsorship.

The University of Ballarat allow the event to be held on their oval. The oval is transformed with a circle of tents around the perimeter, some highly decorative, full of sleeping bags, chairs and snacks to keep up energy levels for the walk ahead.
Entertainment from the stage keeps the walkers moving with the rhythm. Food stalls, masseurs, merchandise stalls, coffee stations and children’s games all add to the atmosphere. Many of the teams develop a theme echoed in their team name, dress up and make the most of spending 18 hours together.
Walkers are all ages and in all states of health. The opening lap to start the event is for survivors, carers and family. A very moving experience for all.
At twilight, candle bags with messages of remembrance, love and support are placed around the oval. This is a very special ceremony for all concerned.
The Rotary Club of Wendouree Breakfast has been involved since 2005 with members, past and present, family and friends joining in.
