Turning Sausages Into Cash
Australia Day January 26th 2010 attracted a large crowd of citizens to celebrate everything Australian. Trevor Ryan and the Driscolls were on site early in the morning to install the barbeque trailer on loan from Laminex Industries. Cooking was underway by 2pm and continued until 8pm with shifts of members smoothly handing over cooking tools. Jan Ross sat out front seducing passer bys to happily buy a raffle ticket. Pack up and clear out was not finished until 11pm leaving some members very tired.
The Begonia Festival invited Rotary clubs to take part in the 'food court' area of the festival. We took up the offer on Sunday 6th March. Wet weather prevented us selling 1000 sausages but 600+ were sold. Again members worked solidly to meet demand over the luncheon period.

Barbeque number three was conducted at Dahlsens Building Centre with the intention to sell food items held in stock after the rain on March 6th. The cooking commenced with high hopes of success but as the morning session finished and the lunch rush failed to start it was obvious no records were under threat. The day concluded with a profit of $192 and goods still in stock.
The humble sausage cooked to perfection, placed lovingly on a slice of bread, topped with gently sizzled onion and decorated with tomato sauce is a great Australian favourite; a favourite that is a fundraising icon.
