Joint Rotary Club Wine Auction Raises $8,820

The Rotary clubs of Wendouree Breakfast and Ballarat West combined to conduct a monster wine auction at the new Ballarat Golf Club on Tuesday 24th November, 2009.

Almost one hundred bidders provided strong competition for ninety lots of high quality wine to raise almost $9000 for the Pyrenees Rural Fire Brigades group for the purchase of the latest technology in fire fighting nozzles.

Auctioneer for the night Rotarian Barry Bedggood said the wine was predominately donated from the wineries in the Pyrenees and Grampians region and also included substantial donations of premium quality wines from Rotarians private cellars.

Pyrenees Rural Fire Brigades Group representative DGO Lyle Driscoll said in accepting the donation that he was amazed at the generosity of the wineries and Rotarians and at the amount of organisation that was involved to successfully stage the event. He also paid tribute to DGO Alan Hives from Creswick for suggesting Pyrenees Group as the recipient of the proceeds from this years Rotary Wine auction.

DGO Driscoll said that the new branch nozzles would make the difficult task of fire-fighting a little safer and easier and would hopefully be installed in all Pyrenees Group tankers later this fire season.
