Nicole's Trip To Finland

Nicole Thomas, the Rotary Club of Wendouree Breakfast's outbound Exchange Student left for Finland in January, 2010.

Nicole will spend 12 months in Finland living with Rotary families, attending school and Rotary meeetings.

Nicole is sending us regular updates and photos which are below.

Over Six Months On And Enjoying The Summer Sun

Nicole is now over her sixth month mark in Finland and has already experienced half of what is becoming the best year of her life! In the last month she has been kept very busy, enjoying the summer sun (even getting sun burnt) and hanging out with her Finnish and Exchange friends.

Summer Is Approaching And So Have My Holidays

It is now summer and Nicole has finished her school year. She has been to a Rotary District Conference, met with the Brisbane GSE Team and has a new host family.

Nicole Visits Russia And Meets Her New Host Family

Nicole has been busy eating chocolates at the Fazer Chocolate Factory in Helsinki and has visited museums, churches and the ballet in St Petersburg in Russia.  She also has a new host family.

Three Months On And The Temperature Is Above Zero

Wow, it has now been three months since I have been in Finland and as I keep saying the time really seems to be going quickly. I have had a busy couple of weeks since Easter.

It's Been Over Two Months Since I Arrived In Finland

What an amazing time I am having. The past few weeks I have been very busy, going to the Ice Hockey, Ruka, my first official Rotary meeting and a whole bunch of other random things!

It's Now Spring And I've Been Ice Swimming

Every morning my host mum Tuula goes ice swimming, and has been asking if I wanted to join her one morning! So on Sunday I decided to go with her. We went to the lake where there is a swimming hole and I went swimming for a whole 30 secs at most!

Wow, I Can’t Really Believe How Fast Time is Ticking!

Already it has been over four weeks since I have left. So what has happened in the past weeks? I had all of last-last week off school because of the exams, so I was able to sleep in a bit, maybe get over my ‘jetlag’.

I  Travel to Raahe And Meet My Host Family

Nicole travelled for nine hours from Karkku to Raahe to meet her host parents Leo and Tuula. She has started school, had tennis coaching, been dancing and shopping and visited an observatory.

Nicole Touches Down In Finland

Our outgoing Exchange Student Nicole Thomas touched down in Finland after a long flight.  Nicole was frisk searched in Singapore and arrived in Finland  to be greeted by snow and ice and a temperature of minus 18 degrees.  A sauna on the first night warmed her up !
