Victoria Armstrong and Ballarat Turf Club
After being elected to the committee of the Ballarat Turf Club, Victoria introduced the idea of attracting a younger demographic to pleasure of horse race meetings. Pleasures include dressing up and socialising in an exciting environment.
As with an any industry or activity it is necessary to continually recruit new young people to keep it alive and growing to remain relevant in society.

The Ballarat Turf Club have recognised that they are the custodians of the infastructure and racing in Ballarat so in planning into the future have refurbished the grandstand at the Miners Rest Race Course, installed an uphill track - the only one in the Southern Hemisphere. Up hill training assists young horses to strengthen their back legs lessening leg injuries.
The Ballarat Cup was run on a Sunday in 2010 for the first time. The Wednesday meeting day had lost relevance with the community. Traditionally it was the last Spring Carnival event of 62 so was not drawing a good field. The revamped Sunday event was popular in it's garden party/wedding type atmosphere.
The committee will continue lobbying the Victorian Racing organisation for a Saturday date and hope the Ballarat Cup will become the main event with many add ons to create a festival weekend in Ballarat.
