District Governor Elect Jessie Harman Sets us a Challenge

Jessie explained her challenge for us is to foster change within the Rotary District. The culture of Rotary has evolved over its 105 year life making it necessary to find ways to introduce more contemporary practices to the organisation. Our club has a relatively younger membership to many clubs in the district so should embrace and try change relatively easily.

Jessie outlined a range of projects executed by clubs throughout the District all are very worthwhile so if clubs worked together projects will become truly spectacular.

Another area in need of attention is the area of public relations and awareness. Rotarians across Australia volunteer $2million worth of time to projects and spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on projects to assist the world wide community.

Jessie thanked members who are assisting with the organisation of the luncheon that will see her installed as District Governor of District 9780.
The areas of global wants to be addressed over the year are;
  • eradicate polio - the disease remains in four countries only with 1000 new cases over the past year
  • provide outreach services to young people
  • address peace and conflict prevention and resolution
  • disease prevention and treatment
  • water satitation
  • maternal and child health
  • basic education and literacy
  • economic and community development

Jessie suggests our club can lead the way and that she is looking forward to her year as District Governor expecting the year to be an enriching and rewarding experience.
