The Motto Fear No Beer Played Out
Eleven Rotarians, one Friend of Rotary and one friend of Rotarian Jeremy travelled to Melbourne on 29/11/2011 with an itinery that introduced us to new places and new beers. This resulted in much laughter, good company, good conversations and beer tasting peppered with an occasional cup of tea or coffee - even a couple of wines entered the equation.
As is usual on these type of trips - what happens on the trip stays on the trip - but!!!
Why would a group of beer fearers sign up for this event? Kath, Kay, Vicki and Jane joined in the tasting with each successfully downing at least one 200ml glass atĀ Little Creatures, our first stop.

This restaurant/bar created in an old warehouse in Fitzroy offered beers from light to dark and good food in a congenial setting. It was here that some of us recognised that we were the oldest drinkers there.
A short walk to Smith Street, Collingwood - struggling to keep some members from embarking on some retail therapy - we arrived at Josey Bones owned by former MasterChef contestants Chris Badenoch and Julia Jenkins. Chris was in the restaurant creating excitment among some of the group. This establishment offers 178 beers, most in bottles but a few on tap. The most controversial taste - I've forgotten its name - was a 110ml taste at $10, it tasted like medicine from my childhood. Others however raved about it, even a couple of fearers. It is here where an erotically arranged skun rabbit can be viewed - it is amazing to think that some men are still not sure where womens breasts are located - ask Dennis, Keith, Jeremy or Rob.
A tram ride to the city took us to the Portland Hotel, a good place for James Squire connoisseurs. Four participants left us here to take an earlier train home. The remaining group walked to Young and Jacksons for a quick look at Chloe and a taste of goat inspired beers. Talk was now getting a little sillier but all were still tidy. Our evening meal was taken in an Indian place just around the corner from Y&J's.
A great day out. Thanks everyone.
