Weekly Meeting - DG's Visit

District Governor Chris Sims will be guest speaker at our breakfast meeting.

Born and raised in Wellington New Zealand, Chris was educated at Rongotai College and then commenced an accounting degree at the Victoria University of Wellington before coming to Australia in 1965.

Chris has a background in accounting and finance being employed in Tertiary Education institutions in Melbourne and Geelong, and self employed in Public Practice in Torquay. Chris sold his share of the Practice in 2004, and currently provides accounting services on a part time basis. He is also the holder of an Estate Agent's Licence.

Chris and Christine have four children and five grandchildren.

In 1988 Chris was a Charter Member of the Rotary Club of Torquay and President in 1993 - 1994. He was recognised by the club as a Paul Harris Fellow in 1996.

Chris joined the Rotary Club of Highton Kardinia in 1997 and has been involved in many club activities including Student Counsellor for inbound and outbound Exchange students, and as Club Secretary for the two years 2004 - 2006. In 2006 he was awarded a Four Avenues of Service Citation.

Chris was a member of the District Youth Exchange Committee from 1992 to 1998 being Chairman for the latter two tears. He was Assistant Governor Youth Services for the three years from 2000 to 2003. He has also been a member and Chairman of the District Committees for Membership and Extension, Rotex, and currently for Polio Plus. He is currently Treasurer for the Australian Rotary Youth Exchange Program Chairs Conference.

Christine was a Charter Member of the Rotary Club of Bayside Geelong in 1997 and assisted Chris in his Youth Exchange duties including being Youth Exchange couriers to Europe in 1998.
Chris and Christine enjoy living in Jan Juc and have been active in many community organisations including the Torquay Primary School Council, the Torquay Squash Club, the Torquay Junior Football and Cricket clubs, the Surf Coast Tourism Board, and the Torquay RSL. They are also joint volunteers for Reading for Print Handicapped for Vision Australia.

Chris has a keen interest in sports, particularly Rugby Union and AFL football, whilst Christine, a retired Child Care worker, enjoys the time they both spend with the children and grandchildren.
