New Club Website Launched

A new website was launched for the Rotary Club of Wendouree Breakfast on Wednesday 17th June, 2009.

A website development committee comprising Rotarians Phillip Lee, June Driscoll, Trevor Ryan and Christine O'Connor commenced building the club's new website on 2nd March 2009.

The website was constructed in the computer lab at the Ballarat Learning Exchange (BLX) in Camp Street as part of the Log_on program. The group met every Monday night between 5 - 7pm and Thursday night between 6 - 8pm.

Log_on is an innovative program that provides young people with real life web development projects by giving them the opportunity to work alongside industry mentors while assisting not for profit community groups in the development of their websites. This allows participants to build their skills, experience and industry connections.

The first step in the development of the club's new website was to develop a site map. This involved visiting over 50 existing Rotary websites to see what they features they offered. From this research we were able to complete our sitemap and commence constructing our new website.

The committee members then had the challenge of collecting information to write stories for all the articles to be posted on the website as well as sourcing photos of the various club projects and events.

The stories were then entered into Joomla, a content management system that runs our website. Photos were re-sized to meet internet requirements using Adobe Photoshop .

The final step prior to the launch was to develop a 'look and feel' template for the site.

The committee members have gained invaluable skills during the contruction of the website and have enjoyed the comradery of the mentors, Log_on participants and the other community groups who were building their websites at the same time.
